Spay and Neuter in Weyers Cave

Spaying or neutering your cat or dog not only contributes to efforts to reduce pet overpopulation, but also negates the possibility of your female falling victim to uterine cancer and your male to prostrate issues in their later years. We encourage having this safe cat and dog surgery performed at a young age since it will improve their behavior and decrease the chances of forming unpleasant habits like spraying to mark territory, roaming, and displaying aggression. Since a spayed or neutered animal neither attracts nor is attracted to other animals during heat periods, their chances of being exposed to infectious diseases is greatly diminished.

Pet Surgery in Weyers Cave

On the day of surgery, your pet will be given a sedative before anesthesia. Anesthesia may be administered through injection or inhalation, depending on the length of the surgery and the condition of the animal. The surgical site will them be shaved and disinfected, and in some cases an IV will be inserted to deliver antibiotics or additional anesthetics.

Although we use safe anesthesia methods, we recommend all cats and dogs, especially the very old and very young, have a pre-op workup done which includes blood work and in some cases an EKG or X-rays. Since we know how difficult it is to sit and wait, we will report back to you as soon as possible. But rest assured, your beloved pet is always in good hands at our practice.

The possibility exists that, despite your care and vigilance, your pet may encounter conditions that require veterinary surgery. These can range from infected bites or abscessed wounds to ingestion of foreign objects to mouth and skin disorders, benign growths and unfortunately, cancer in major organs. Fortunately, today's pet owners have surgical options for their animals that didn't exist as recently as five years ago.

Testimnial Quote
We have brought all of our animals to Maple Lane since the mid 70's. The vets and the staff have always treated them just like "real" children", which they are of course to us. If the kids are sick, the staff works diligently to make them better and, when appropriate, worry along with us until they are. And on the unavoidable occasions when we have had to say goodbye to one of our dogs, they have made it as easy on us as possible, by giving us privacy, time to say goodbye, and even crying with us. We wouldn't go anywhere else.
